As Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings prepare for a historic showdown at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, both teams are hoping to have their full squads available for the high-stakes final. However, RCB faces a major injury concern with Australian power-hitter Tim David, whose availability remains uncertain.

David sustained a hamstring injury while fielding during RCB’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad and subsequently missed the following match against Lucknow Super Giants. His absence could be a significant blow to RCB’s lower-order firepower.

Captain Rajat Patidar provided little clarity on David’s condition during the pre-final press conference. “I have no idea about Tim David. Doctors will let us know this evening,” he told reporters, leaving fans and team management on edge.

David has been a key impact player for RCB this season, scoring 187 runs at a blistering strike rate of 185 and averaging 64. His standout knock came against Punjab Kings, where he notched up his maiden IPL half-century in a rain-affected match—an effort that nearly won the game single-handedly. His potential absence could tilt the balance in this much-anticipated final.

RCB with 2 out of 2 wins without David

Rajat Patidar: Despite the uncertainty surrounding Tim David’s fitness, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have proven they can win without him. In his absence, RCB secured victories against both Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings in crucial encounters. Jitesh Sharma stepped up impressively as a finisher against LSG, delivering a destructive performance, while RCB’s bowling unit dominated Qualifier 1 against PBKS, minimizing the need for lower-order contributions.

Adding to their lineup concerns, RCB also face the departure of Jacob Bethell, who has returned to international duty. This puts additional pressure on Jitesh Sharma and the explosive Romario Shepherd to hold firm in the lower order. Fortunately for RCB, both have shown the ability to handle high-pressure situations, making them capable replacements should Tim David miss the final.

Punjab Kings, too, have dealt with key departures this season. Glenn Maxwell was ruled out due to injury, and Marco Jansen left to join South Africa’s WTC preparations. Yet PBKS have built their campaign around a solid Indian domestic core, a strategy that has served them well and will remain their foundation heading into the IPL 2025 final.
