The much-awaited Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction is set to take place on Sunday, December 15, 2024, in Bengaluru. This mini-auction marks the beginning of another exciting season as the five franchises gear up to compete for the 19 remaining slots in their squads.
Initially, 400 players registered for the auction. However, after deliberations with all five teams, the final list was trimmed to 120 players, comprising 91 Indians and 29 overseas cricketers.
While most franchises have retained their core squads, a few took bold decisions by releasing prominent players ahead of the auction. Big names like Sneh Rana, Poonam Yadav, Lea Tahuhu, Heather Knight, and Issy Wong were among those let go, adding intrigue to the event.
The shortlisted players have been categorized into three base price brackets: INR 50 lakhs, INR 30 lakhs, and INR 10 lakhs. Star players such as Deandra Dottin, Heather Knight, and Lizelle Lee are among those listed in the top base price category of INR 50 lakhs, promising a competitive bidding war.
