Mohammed Shami is a key player for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025. Regarded as one of the finest bowlers to have ever represented Team India, Mohammed Shami found himself on the wrong side of a record during match No. 27 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Shami, representing SRH in IPL 2025, had a tough outing during the match on Saturday, April 12. The pacer conceded 75 runs in his four overs, failing to take a wicket. His expensive performance contributed to PBKS posting a massive total of 245/6. Shami’s economy rate for the match was a staggering 18.80.
Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, PBKS posted their second-highest IPL total in this clash, with Iyer leading the charge by scoring a blistering 82 runs off just 36 balls, which included six boundaries and as many sixes.
Mohammed Shami Sets Record for Most Expensive Spell by an Indian Bowler in IPL History
Mohammed Shami has now bowled the most expensive spell by an Indian bowler in IPL history. Previously, the record was held by Mohit Sharma, who conceded 73 runs in a match against Delhi Capitals (DC) while playing for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024.
Shami’s 75-run spell during a clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025 now stands as the second-most expensive spell overall in IPL history. The record for the most expensive spell remains with England pacer Jofra Archer, who gave away 76 runs in a four-over spell for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against SRH earlier in the current season. This remains the worst bowling performance in IPL history to date.
